Abstract

The U.S. Army Defense Ammunition Center and School (USADACS), Transportation Engineering Division (SMCAC-DET), developed loading and bracing procedures for shipping Multiple Launch Rocket System (NMRS) pods on center beam bulkhead flatcars and bulkhead flatcars at the suggestion of CSX Transportation. U.S. Army Defense Ammunition Center and School, Validation Engineering Division (SMCAC-DEV), was tasked by USADACS, SMCAC-DET, to conduct rail impact testing of the loading and bracing procedures. Testing of the procedures was conducted in accordance with the Association of American Railroads (AAR)Bureau of Explosives (BOE) rail impact test criteria. The loading and bracing procedures met the AAR/BOE requirements and have been approved for U.S. Army (USA)-wide use for shipping MLRS pods.
