Analysis of Microorganisms by Oxidative and Non-Oxidative Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography Ion Trap Mass Spectrometry.

Abstract

Three different bacterial species were analyzed using a quartz tube pyrolysis GC-ITD mass spectrometry system, using both oxidative and non- oxidative pyrolysis conditions. The results obtained under oxidative pyrolysis conditions were indistinguishable from those obtained with non-oxidative pyrolysis. However, differences in their lipid composition made it possible to distinguish between the three bacterial species by visual examination of appropriate data plots, using results obtained with either oxidative or non- oxidative pyrolytic conditions.
