A Reexamination of the Plastic Flow Criterion for Copper

Abstract

It was found impossible to reconcile discrepancies between uniaxial and torsion test data for copper within the framework of the von Mises yield function; use of a more general function employing both the second and third invariants of the stress deviator was studied and certain limitations on use of such functions are discussed.
