The Energetic Radiation Environment in a Highly Elliptical (Molniya) Orbit

Abstract

Measurements have been made of the dose received by silicon components under 100 mils of aluminum aboard satellites in a Molniya orbit. Nearly continuous data are presented for the time period from August 1983 until March 1990. It is concluded that the observations are consonant with the predictions of the NASA AP-8 model but not with those of the AE-8 model.
