A Report on a Study to Explore the Characteristics of Offenders Committing Financially Motivated Crimes Related to the Acquisition, Use and Disposal of Illegal Funds

Abstract

This report presents the findings of a research study of offenders convicted of financially motivated, non-violent crimes. three major areas were targeted for investigation: (1) offender characteristics of those committing such crimes; (2) offense characteristics for this type of crime; and (3) the relationships between the offenders and their offenses, particularly as these three areas relate to the acquisition, use and disposal of funds obtained from such financially motivated crimes. Data was collected through structured interviews with 136 male offenders convicted of such crimes who were incarcerated in four Illinois Department of Corrections and three Federal Bureau of Prisons facilities.
