Laser and Optical Physics

Abstract

This final report summarized significant progress in combining light scattering with decision and estimation theory to determine whether or not aerosols are homogeneous spheres or shell-like (possibly encapsulated). Researchers have succeeded in comparing two parameter spheres with three parameter shells with a reasonable range of permitted radii and indices, and have demonstrated the feasibility of the next step: handling four parameter shells.
