Assessment of DNA Modifications in Medaka (0. Latipes) Exposed to Chemicals in Contaminated Ground Water.

Abstract

A method has been developed for the analysis of oxidative modifications in the DNA of Medaka based on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, coupled with selected ion monitoring. This sensitive method allows for the structural and quantitative determination of oxidative base changes in fish exposed to low concentrations of groundwater contaminants and other chemicals. Overall it is potentially useful for elucidating genotoxic injury in animals exposed to environmental chemicals at hazardous waste sites.
