Estimation of EOF Expansion Coefficients from Incomplete Data

Abstract

A least-squares minimization technique for estimating principal components (empirical orthogonal function expansion coefficients) from incomplete ocean profile data is developed, and its use for interpolating or extrapolating these profiles is described.
