Satellite Imagery Goes to the Field

Abstract

There was a time, not long ago, when topographic terrain support to Army forces in the field was either nonexistent or woefully inadequate due to the compilation date of the available map products. Field units were devoted to providing expedient products based on old source agent reports and personnel reconnaissance. If no base materials were available, 'best guess' products were producted to fill gaps.
