Abstract

This volume presents an hierarchical system of historic ceramic classification that is based on chronological changes in the manufacture of different ceramic wares, particularly with regard to paste characteristics and decorative motifs. This classification system is utilized in the analysis of extensive collections of nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century historical ceramics from five archaeological sites in the Salt River valley of northeast Missouri.
