Strategy-Making Models: Is There an Ideal Model for Developing Strategy?

Abstract

This report examines five strategy-making model to determine if there is an ideal model. Four models--elite, incremental, rational, and process -- are taken from non military writers and the fifth model from a military writer. Four historical military strategies -- Bay of Pigs, Bombing of Pearl Harbor, and the Korean War and Vietnam War escalations -- are analyzed to determine if a particular model was used. The report concludes that the process model is recommended for developing military strategy.
