Family Separations in the Army

Abstract

This report examines the impact of separations on Army soldiers and their families and the role of Army programs in providing separation support. The data for the report are from a 1989 Army wide survey of a probability sample of 11,035 soldiers in 528 active component Army units and 3,277 Army spouses. The report examines The nature and extent of separation experienced by Army soldiers and their families, and The nature of separation problems and worries experienced and the family characteristics of those who experience them. Enlisted personnel experience the highest rates of family separation and are the most likely to report related problems. Separation, Family separation, Deployments, Reunion.
