Enhancing Future Warfare with Space Age Logistics.

Abstract

Throughout history, military leaders have found the decisive edge on the battlefield in technological advances. Desert Storm demonstrated the potential of space-based systems as combat multipliers on the battlefield. Like any other combat leader, the logistician must capitalize on the capabilities of the space program. This is especially true considering the more proactive role that logistics leaders must take in the emerging concept of AirLand Operations. AirLand Operations is the umbrella under which ground combat doctrine will bridge from the current AirLand Battle doctrine to the warfighting doctrine of the 21st century. Viewed from the logistician's perspective, the space-enhanced functions of surveillance, warning, communications, environmental monitoring and navigation can significantly improve operational and tactical service support now, possessing unlimited possibilities for giving logisticians the additional flexibility and mobility demanded in the concept of AirLand Operations.
