Severe Weather Guide - Mediterranean Ports - 45. Piraeus
Abstract
This guide for the Port of Piraeus, Greece, is one in a series of severe weather guides for Mediterranean ports. The guide provides decision-making guidance for ship captains whose vessels are threatened by actual or forecast strong winds, high seas, restricted visibility, or thunderstorms in the port vicinity. Causes and effects of such hazardous conditions are discussed. Precautionary or evasive actions are suggested for various vessel situations. The guide is organized into four sections for ready reference: general information on the guide's content and use, a quick-look captain's summary, a more detailed review of general information on environmental conditions, and an appendix that provides oceanographic information.
