In Vitro System for the Assessment of the Potential Antifertility Affect of Chemicals.

Abstract

The medium and culture conditions that support rabbit sperm cell motility development of hyperactive motion were determined. Sperm motility was excellent when cultured in defined medium (DM) supplemented with heat inactivated rabbit, calf, or horse serum; but cell viability was poor. Cell viability was improved in DM alone or in Biggers, Whittingham, and Whitten medium but was best when incubated in Toyoda and Chang or T6 mediums. Hyperactive motion developed in the four media when incubation was carried out at 37 deg C in 95% air and 5% CO2 . A preincubation step was not necessary. Sperm cell viability and hyperactive motility development was rabbit specific... . Medium, Rabbit, Preincubation, Serum, Hyperactive motion, Gas mixture, Sperm cells, Viability.
