Dynamic Material Properties of Moist Sand

Abstract

The dynamic response of moist sand was measured under shock loading conditions similar to those produced by the ground shock loading from a conventional weapon. The loading was produced by a large bore (15 cm) light gas gun which produced shock stress levels of 1 to 3 KBar. The speed of propagation of the shock wave and the stress levels in the soil were measured directly by the use of Manganin gages.
