Projected Performance Characteristics for Large, Quickly Erectable Maintenance Shelters

Abstract

In anticipation of the need for a large, quickly erectable maintenance shelter, a systems analysis effort investigating current and future battlefield maintenance doctrine, defining the physical dimensions of air and ground platforms requiring maintenance, and projecting requirements for such a shelter, if any, by these platforms has been initiated. Program managers for major air and ground platforms were surveyed to determine the physical dimensions and performance characteristics required if such a shelter is to increase the battlefield readiness of these platforms, and to identify the most probable locations of such maintenance operations. In-house shelter and tentage developers were then surveyed to determine the technical feasibility and cost of achieving the identified shelter performance characteristics.
