Energy Transfer Studies in Interhalogen Molecules

Abstract

This program is examining energy transfer processes in interhalogen molecules that have potential for visible chemical laser development. Spectrally resolved laser induced fluorescence is used to determine rotation-to-translation (R-T) and vibration-to-translation (V-T) rate coefficients. In this report we compare several fitting laws for R-T transfer to data obtained for IF and IC1 interactions with several collision partners. We have also obtained preliminary data on V-T relaxation within the ground electronic state of IF. Preliminary results of an optically-pumped HF laser are also presented.
