Survey of Hazardous Chemical Protective Suit Materials for Shipboard Use

Abstract

The Navy Clothing and Textile Research Facility has conducted a survey of selected materials for potential use in a hazardous chemical protective ensemble, and subsequently subjected these materials to a laboratory evaluation for durability and the results are presented in this report. An overview of the current Naval posture on hazardous chemical minimization and control is also synopsized. Protective clothing levels, governing standards and ensemble types are also discussed. The report concludes that there is a need to develop a hazardous chemical protective ensemble that will provide protection for firefighters in the event of a hazardous chemical fire.
