A Performance Assessment Task for Examining Tactical Decision Making Under Stress

Abstract

The TActical Navy DEcision Making System (TANDEMS) was designed and developed to mimic some of the tasks and information processing requirements typically encountered by personnel in a ship's combat information center (CIC). Set within the context of a simulated radar display, TANDEMS presents radar contacts that must be detected, identified, labelled, and acted upon by accessing key data available in various menus. Performance is automatically recorded along seven dimensions and stored for subsequent analyses. This report discusses the design, development, and capabilities of TANDEMS and then presents several opportunities for research.... Decision making, Performance, Stress.
