Abstract
The strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) is intended to identify and develop technology that will enhance the capability of the Department of Defense and the Department of Energy to meet their environmental obligations. Also the program is intended to provide technology and information that may be useful to other government and private organizations in addressing environment concerns. SERDP provides a vehicle to facilitate the transfer of appropriate technology from the private sector to address DoD and DOE environmental and energy issues. Specifically,the purposes of the Program are to: (1) address environmental matters of concern to DoD and DOE through support for basic and applied research and the development technologies that can enhance the capabilities of the departments to meet their environmental obligations; (2) identify and share research, technologies, and other information developed by DoD and DOE for national defense purposes, involved in the development of energy technologies and of technologies to address environmental restoration, waste minimization, hazardous waste substitution, and other environmental concerns; (3) furnish other governmental and private organizations with data, enhance collection and analytical capabilities for use by such organizations in the conduct of environmental research; and (4) identify technologies developed by the private sector that are useful to DoD and DOE defense activities concerning environmental restoration, hazardous and solid waste minimization and prevention, and hazardous material substitution, and provide for the use of such technologies.
