Detonation Wave Curvature, Corner Turning, and Unreacted Hugoniot of PBXN-111

Abstract

This study was undertaken to develop a date base on the detonation properties of PBXN-111 (formerly PBXW-115)and to improve our understanding of its divergent flow properties. This data base can be used to test curved wave front detonation theories and two-dimensional hydrodynamic flow detonation models which take into account the initiation and the growth of reactions and multiple energy release rates. A high-speed streak camera was used to measure the wave front curvature and the corner turning ability of PBXN-111. The unreacted Hugoniot was measured using quartz and multiple in situ manganin stress gauges. These Hugoniot samples were dynamically loaded by the impact of projectiles from a light gas gun....
