Aviation Maintenance in the 101st Airborne Division during the Gulf War: Its Application in a Power Projection Environment.

Abstract

This Personal Experience Monograph (PEM) will describe the preparation and operations of 8th Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) as it deployed to the Gulf War and then participated in Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm. It will focus on the Battalion's performance in aviation maintenance and serve to evaluate current doctrine pertaining to aviation maintenance. It concludes that support: packages should be tailored to fit power projection forces and that these packages require operational flexibility.
