Oceanographic Research Towers in European Waters

Abstract

The author of this report discusses methods used to obtain in-situ measurements for scientific data in the various disciplines of oceanography and maritime meteorology. The author also points out the advantages of research towers and factors in the selection of a particular tower. Included in the report is a list of research towers which does not include temporary setups, anchored ships, oil towers temporarily used for research, and research installations on high rocks at the shore as they exist or existed near Stad in Norway and on the Crimea peninsula.
