Variability of the Electric Field Strength in the Earth-Ionosphere Waveguide Due to Variations in the Electron Density Profile

Abstract

A method is developed for finding the standard deviation of the field strength in the earth-ionosphere at very low frequencies. This method uses derivatives of the waveguide eigenangles for height and slope variations in the electron density profile. The calculated results are in reasonable agreement with available data.
