A Survey of Codes for Modeling Electromagnetic Launch

Abstract

The state-of-the-art in numerical modeling of electromagnetic (EM) railgun launch phenomenology is assessed. It is concluded that among the extensive list of available codes, only two satisfy all of the requirements for electrodynamic calculations. Based on this assessment, recommendations to obtain and validate and EM modeling capability are presented.
