Optimal Coding of Objects When Classifying Them by Methods of Pattern Recognition

Abstract

A method is proposed that is the optimal coding of objects in the classification of complex systems. The determination of the codes is reduced to the solution of a problem of linear programming. The obtained table of codes can be used, for example, for determining the oil content of beds from the data of geophysical measurements. The methods of pattern recognition are widely used not only for the identification of visual forms, but also for the classification of complex systems of different types. Criteria are either results of quantitative measurements or qualitative evaluations. It is possible to assume that each parameter has a finite number of gradations.
