Development and Implementation of a General Purpose X-Windows Display Program

Abstract

The purpose of the work presented here was to design and develop a portable, easy-to-use software package capable of displaying a gray scale image. The display of an image was in actuality only a part of the work. The program was also required to be both FORTRAN and C callable. Additionally, the program had to provide the user with the capability to draw on the image in color, and import tracings, or contours, and display them on the image. The final requirement was to engage recursive use of the program, to provide the ability to display multiple images simultaneously. This work is a presentation of the program developed to meet the above stated requirements. The program is called SEP. The first chapter contains a brief discussion of the reasoning behind the choice of the windowing system utilized. Also presented is an overview of the terminology and concepts involved in using that windowing system. The second chapter describes the internal operations of the program and how it meets the requirements
