Research Program in Tropical Infectious Diseases

Abstract

Research progressed in fevers of unknown origin, leishmaniasis and mosquito larval ecology. New initiatives included investigations of hepatitis incidence and vaccine trials in the BDF and mosquito surveillance and pesticide screening. Manuscripts on malaria vectors and hepatitis have been accepted for publication. Two USUHS medical students conducted research and obtained clinical experience in Belize. Three Belizean physicians completed USUHS MPH and MTM and H graduate programs. ERC personnel attended three international scientific meetings, received formal training in two courses and presented research data at three medical meetings in Belize.
