Short Wavelength Crystal Fiber Devices

Abstract

The potential of crystal fibers for the generation of short wavelength visible laser radiation was explored under this program. There were two major thrusts to this work. One of them was the search for a suitable technique to produce low loss crystal fibers. Implantation cladding of bare crystal fibers with high energy ion beams was investigated for this purpose. The other was the identification of a suitable upconversion process which would be amenable for implementation in the crystal fiber form. For what the upconversion laser potential of Tm:YAG was explored
