Partial Support of MAST Academy Outreach Program, Summer 1992

Abstract

This documents constitutes the final report of efforts undertaken in regard to grant N00014-89J-3172. In this program, Students from the MAST Academy and other public and private high schools in Dade County were placed in laboratory positions at three oceanographic institutions on Virginia Key, Miami, Florida during the summer of 1992. These students received direct supervision from faculty members of the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) and from staff scientists at the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratories of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (AOML/NOAA) and at the Southeast Fisheries Center, National Marine Fisheries Service (SEFC/NMFS). This program enabled high school students the opportunity to work in a marine science research environment and to more accurately appraise career opportunities oceanographic sciences.
