Vulnerability of Approximate Targets

Abstract

This report describes the computation of vulnerability in case of approximately specified targets and threats whereby the specifications are assumed to be vague but not stochastic. Such specifications are typical for hypothetical or generic weapon systems. Treating the inaccuracies within the framework of possibility theory we obtain two confidence measures for the occurrence of a kill, namely, the values of possibility and necessity of kill. These measures replace the usual probability of kill that is an appropriate measure in cases of stochastic inaccuracies. Possibilistic vulnerability analyses can be particularly useful for the early development phases of weapon systems....
