An Analysis of AEGIS CASREP and 2-KILO Maintenance Failure Data

Abstract

This thesis attempts to determine if the maintenance technicians who graduate from the AEGIS Training Center (ATC) receive a sufficient amount of training. Using the AEGIS CASREP and 2-KILO maintenance history files from the NAVSEALOGCEN located in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, an analysis is conducted to determine: (1) if the percentage of curriculum hours devoted to the components of a specific equipment identification code (EIC) match with the percentage of total maintenance hours spent repairing those components in the fleet, and (2) if an analysis of the CASREP and 2-KILO Direct-Indicator element codes will identify any areas where formal training has been insufficient. Based on the findings of this thesis, recommendations were made: (1) to reduce the amount of training for eleven EIC's, and (2) to increase the amount of training for nine EIC's. Additionally, the Direct-Indicator element codes were found to be poor indicators for identifying areas of insufficient training. The results obtained during this study are expected to provide the AEGIS Training Center with more information on how to better determine the training requirements of its students.
