Localizing Visual Function in the Brain
Abstract
A three day meeting, held in Rochester, discussed 'Localizing Visual Function in the Brain'. The meeting consisted of presentations by 15 prominent scientists of topics including; the anatomy of modular connections in the primate visual system, computational advantages of modular organization, imaging of the function of visual cortex, and physiological and behavioral evidence of modular processing. Each group of presentations was followed by a wide ranging discussion of the theme of the session. An audience of about 200 researchers and students included visual and computational scientists, neurologists and radiologists, as well as a diverse group of investigators (largely physicists and engineers) interested in brain imaging. Many participants felt that it was an unusually productive meeting because of the broad range of related issues covered and the, at times intense, discussions that filled the meeting.
