Software Development Information Supported by Typical CASE Tools

Abstract

The work described in this report was accomplished as part of the Distributed Computing Design System (DCDS) evaluation project, AIRMICS Report ASQB-GI-91-009, Evaluation of DCDS for Meeting the Data Collection Requirements for Software Specification, Development, and Support . The DCDS evaluation is outlined in the succeeding paragraph. This report augments the DCDS report by identifying the data collection requirements for a fully flexible CASE environment. The DCDS evaluation technical report consists of five separate but related reports which evaluate the Distributed Computing Design System (DCDS). DCDS was developed by TRW as a software development environment for real-time, distributed systems. The principal investigator evaluated DCDS in terms of: (a) its data collection requirements, (b) its software development information completeness, (c) its usability, (d) how it compares to five commercially available CASE tools, and (e) its suitability as an Ada Programming Support Environment (APSE).
