Environmental Assessment for North Warning System (Alaska)

Abstract

To replace the aging Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line System and to reduce annual operating costs, the U.S. and Canadian governments have agreed to install and operate an improved, updated radar capability. This program, termed the North Warning System (NWS), includes 15 minimally attended Long Range (LRR) Stations, 39 unattended Short Range Radar (SRR) Stations, 6 Forward Supply Points (FSP), and 3 Central Maintenance Facilities (CMF).
