Interferometer Stations at the Air Force Aeroballistic Research Facility

Abstract

Two interferometer stations were installed in the Eglin AFB ballistic range--a holographic and a common path interferometer. The latter was used in both dark central ground and field absorption modes. A theoretical development given for the common path instrument predicts an improved type of phase contrast interferometer with a half wave shifting filter instead of the quarter wave used in the past. Experimentally mentally measured interferograms were found to be in good agreement with synthetic interferograms calculated with data from a Navier- Stokes Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code.
