Stinger Team Performance During Engagement operations in a chemical Environment: The Effect of Experience
Abstract
This research compared the engagement performance of two groups of soldiers wearing the standard battle dress uniform (MOPPO) and the full chemical protective ensemble (MOPP4). The two groups of air defense soldiers varied widely in training and experience. Twelve Stinger teams were recruited during their last week of advanced individual training to become the low experience group. Another twelve Stinger teams were recruited from veterans newly returned from Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. All teams were tested in the Range Target System (RTS). Measurements were recorded for engagement performance, stress, and workload. Engagement performance was poorer during conditions of MOPP4 for both the lower and high experience groups. Engagement performance was better for the high experience group than for the low experience group regardless of MOPP conditions. Stress and workload ratings were higher when Stinger teams wore MOPP4 than MOPPO....
