Novel Approaches to the Synthesis of Fluorodinitromethane and Fluorodinitroethanol

Abstract

Fluorodinitroethanol (FDNE) has been produced by nitration of 1,2- dichlorodifluoroethylene to give chlorofluoronitroacetic acid, which was converted to chlorofluoronitronitrosomethane with red fuming nitric acid. Oxidation gave chlorofluorodinitromethane, which was reduced to FDNE with iodide. 1,5-Bis(trifluoroacetyl)3,7-dioxooctahydro-1,5-diazocine was synthesized as an intermediate to 3,3,7,7,7-tetrakis(difluoraminio)octahydro-1,5-dinitor-1, 5-diazocine. Diazocine precursors were prepared by the reaction of epichlorohydrin with t-butylamine and benzylamine. Fluorodinitroethanol
