BACKSCATTER.FOR: A Program to Calculate the Backscattering Strength of an Inhomogeneous Seabed.

Abstract

The author has previously reported on a theoretical model for acoustic backscattering from an inhomogeneous volume beneath a smooth water/sediment interface J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 87, (1990). In spite of the good agreement between model and data obtained by the author, the model's complexity somewhat undermines its usefulness to other users. To alleviate this drawback, a user's manual for the FORTRAN 77 code developed by the author to evaluate the model is presented in this paper. To assist potential users of the software, the interpretation of the model in terms of the FORTRAN 77 code employed is explained and a sample run is presented....
