A Uniform Geometrical Optics Analysis for Scattering from 2-D Superquadric Surfaces.

Abstract

Electromagnetic scattering from 2-I superquadric cylinders of arbitrary order nu is investigated and a uniform geometrical optics solution valid across the smooth caustics generated by the surface poles or zero curvature points is obtained based on the physical optics radiation integral. The general multiplicative transition function that modifies the classical geometrical optics solution is heuristically derived and involves higher order Airy (Hyper-Airy) functions and their integrals. The formulated UGO solution is numerically efficient for electrically large cylinders and compares very well with physical optics and moment method solutions for both backscatter and bistatic configurations.
