A RFI Measurement System for Field Sites

Abstract

A compact system has been developed for performing RFI measurements at remote sites. This system covers a 0.5- to 18-GHz frequency range. The system's sensitivity meets or exceeds the sensitivity of a ground terminal when the interfering signals arrive through its wide-angle sidelobes. This sensitivity is achieved with a commercial spectrum analyzer and a specially designed preamplifier system. In addition, a combination of passive bandpass filtering and tuned band-reject filtering preserves the system's linearity when operating, in the presence of strong signals. Example measurements illustrate the operation of this RFI measurement system.
