Aspects of the Calibration and Processing of the CRRES Fluxgate Magnetometer Data

Abstract

The report describes algorithms for on-orbit calibration and processing of the Fluxgate Magnetometer data from the Combined Release and Radiation Effects Satellite. The calibration problem is parameterized in a completely general treatment in terms of instrument alignment and magnetometer offsets and gains. Fits to the data from the spinning satellite are used to derive all but two of the parameters needed for despinning. Data taken during precession maneuvers and attitude data is used to derive these remaining two. The report includes a discussion of anomalies in the instrument and includes a description of the data products.
