Environmental Impact Statement, Auxiliary Airfield for Williams Air Force Base, Arizona

Abstract

This environmental impact statement (EIS) has been prepared pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and analyzes the potential environmental impacts of constructing and operating a 600-acre auxiliary airfield in one of three candidate areas. No specific location for the auxiliary airfield has been determined within each of three candidate areas, and in general the analyses in this EIS encompass all of each of these areas. Portions of the candidate areas have been eliminated from further consideration as sites for the proposed airfield because of safety, operational, and construction considerations. This EIS provides environmental information that can be used to further narrow the potential locations acceptable for an auxiliary airfield. Impacts related to land use, water resources, air quality, noise, terrestrial and aquatic resources, threatened and endangered species, socioeconomics, recreation, and cultural resources were evaluated for all portions of three candidate areas.
