Complex and Stereoregular Nonlinear Optical Materials

Abstract

This Phase I research program resulted in the synthesis and identification of a previously unknown set of aromatic phosphonic acid compounds, which possessed interesting thermal properties. There are very few phosphonate compounds reported that are liquid crystalline in nature. However, the non-linear optical properties of these compounds were determined to be unremarkable. Very probably, this is due to a relatively small dipole between the phosphonate moiety and a distal cyano group. Non-linear optics, Phosphonate.
