Proceedings of the Annual Seismic Research Symposium (15th) Held in Vail, Colorado on 8-10 September 1993

Abstract

This Symposium represents the combined annual review for the seismic verification research programs. The scientific objectives of the research programs are to improve the Air Force's capability to seismically detect, locate, identify, and estimate the yield of underground nuclear explosions. The purpose of these Symposia is to provide the sponsoring agencies an opportunity to review research, particularly contractor research, accomplished during the preceding year and to outline areas of investigation for the coming year. For the researchers, it provides a forum for the exchange of scientific information to help achieve program goals, and an opportunity to meet PL, AFOSR, and NMRO staff to discuss results and future plans. The papers include studies of the identification and characterization of seismic explosion sources (discrimination), intelligent processing of regional seismic signals, the acquisition and processing of seismic data including data from the Commonwealth of Independent States, regional seismic wave propagation from both an empirical and theoretical viewpoint, yield estimation, and laboratory studies of rock properties appropriate to test sites.
