Fabrication and Evaluation of Superconducting and Semiconducting Materials
Abstract
SFA provided research support to the Naval Research Laboratory Material Physics Branch by conducting investigations into the properties of superconducting, magnetic, and other solid state materials. Studies were made with an assortment of experimental techniques, including sophisticated materials preparation, magnetic resonance, electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, the Mossbauer effect, and a variety of other techniques that probe the physical state of matter. SFA also aided the Material Physics Branch in conducting research into applied problems such as the design of magnetic shielding and superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometry detection of magnetic anomalies. SFA provided research assistance in the areas of bulk ceramic sample preparation, conversion electron Mossbauer spectrometry, ultra-high vacuum thin film deposition and characterization, sputter thin film deposition, and superconducting measurements.
