Armed Forces Medical Examiner System

Abstract

This Directive establishes an Armed Forces medical examiner system with an Office of the Armed Forces Medical Examiner (OAFME) and an Armed Forces Medical Examiner (AFME), under reference (a), to conduct scientific forensic investigations for determining cause and manner of death under specific circumstances for: 1. Members of the Armed Forces on active duty or on active duty for training. 2. Civilians, including dependents of military members.
