Denitrification in Bottomland Hardwood Soils of the Cache River, Arkansas

Abstract

The primary objective of this study was to measure the rates at which nitrate is supplied and lost from nitrate-enriched river water flooding swamp sediments. These rates were estimated from the disappearance of added 15N labeled nitrate and the rate at which the labeled isotope in the water column became diluted by 14N produced by nitrification of ammonium in the sediment.
