HECLIB. Volume 2: HECDSS Subroutines Programmer's Manual

Abstract

Programmers's manual for computer programmers to interface FORTRAN application programs to HEC's Data Storage System (HECDSS or DSS). The DSS is a database system that was developed to meet needs for data storage and retrieval for water resource studies. The system enables efficient storage and retrieval of time series (such as precipitation hyetographs or hydrographs of stage, discharge, etc.) and other data-types for which storage in blocks of contiguous data elements is most appropriate. The DSS consists of a library of FORTRAN subroutines which can be readily used with application programs to enable retrieval and storage of information. The current application programs include the widely used program Flood Hydrograph Package (HEC-1) and the Expected Annual Damage (EAD) program. In addition, approximately 17 DSS utility programs have been developed. A number of these programs are for data entry, for example from the USGS WATSTORE database, or from WS precipitation data files. Other utility programs include a powerful graphics program, a report generator, and a program for performing mathematical transformations.
